Golf Solitaire is a multi-player solitaire game, and yes, we know that's a bit of an oxymoron. The object of the game is to remove as many cards as you can from the playing field. And how do you do that? Easy! You just need to click on a card that's one higher or one lower than whatever card is in your discard pile. So, for example, if you've got a 3 in your discard pile, you could remove either a 2 or a 4 from the playing field.

As you remove Golf Solitaire cards from the playing field, they move down into your discard pile, which gives you new cards to play with - see how big of a streak you can get! Out of moves? No problem, just click on the draw pile to draw another card. (If you've ever played Tri-Peaks Solitaire, it's pretty similar.)

Watch out for Hazard cards - they earn you tokens (and Rank Progress, if you're a Club Pogo member) for removing them, but you can't play anything on top of them. Unless, of course, you get a Golden Shot card - they can turn Hazard cards back into normal cards. And Wild Cards can be played on top of anything.

When you're completely out of moves, the number of cards you have left in the playing field becomes your score. Just like in a real game of golf, every hand has a "par" score, and your goal is to try and end up with fewer cards remaining than the par score. If you can complete the entire course below par, you get a jackpot spin! If you can complete all five holes with the lowest score of all the players in the card games online room, you win the game and get to choose the next course!

Basic Gameplay:

Your goal in Golf Solitaire is to remove cards from the playing field, and you do that by clicking on cards that are one higher or one lower than whatever card is in the discard pile.

For example, in the playing field here, a player could play either the 5 or the 3 on top of that 4. When you play a card from the playing field, it moves to the discard pile, and then you can play other cards on top of that one.
For example, let's say we play the 3 on top of the 4.

With the 3 now in our discard pile, we could play the 2. And then after that, we could play one of the 1s on the playing field.

Note that a deck of Golf Solitaire only goes from 1 to 11, and you cannot "wrap around" from 11 to 1.

If you cannot play any more Golf Solitaire cards onto the discard pile, click on the draw pile to draw a new card.

Hazard Cards:

Hazard Cards are the cards that feature Duff (our resident golfer) on the front. Hazard Cards act similar to normal cards, except that no other number cards can be played on top of them.

So in this example here, we could play that 5 Hazard on top of the 4. But once we do that...

We can't play the 6! Notice that all the cards are dimmed, to show that you can't play anything on top of that 5. That's too bad, because that would let us create a big streak. Maybe it's time to play a Golden Shot card. What are those, you ask?

Golden Shot Cards:

Golden Shot cards turn Hazard Cards back into normal cards in Golf Solitaire, so you can keep playing on top of them. Wow! You earn Golden Shot cards by uncovering them in the playing field - as soon as they're uncovered, they move down to your Golden Shot inventory to the right of the discard pile. Whenever you want to use one, just click on it whenever you've got a hazard card in your discard pile.

Let's look at our hazard example from before. If we were to play the Golden Shot card on top of that 5 Hazard...

We could turn that 5 Hazard back into a normal 5.

Then we could play the 6 (followed by the 7, another 6, another 7, and that 8, for a really nice streak.)

Note that you can only have five Golden Shot cards in your inventory at any time. If you earn more than five Golden Shot cards, extra ones will turn into tokens. Tokens are nice, too.

Wild Cards

Wild Cards are... well... Wild Cards. They can be played on top of any card, and you can play any card on top of them. They're pretty rare, so use them wisely in Golf Solitaire!

Undo

Made a mistake? Don't worry - just click the undo button and try again. You can use the undo button as many times as you want during a card game, but you can't use it twice in a row. (In other words, you can only "go back" one move. You need to make another move before using the undo button again.)

End Hand

When all the cards from the draw pile are used up and you have no more moves, the current round is over. Click the "End Hand" button to end your current hand. If you've ended your hand early enough in the round and there's some time left in, you'll get to play a bonus Golf Solitaire game or two!

Bonus Game

The Bonus Game is a way for you to earn extra power-ups, improve your score, or just get some tokens by playing some very simple Golf-Solitaire-esque games. Here's the way it works....

Our crack team of puzzle-moving blimp pilots will fly into your playing field and give you a small Golf Solitaire layout. If you can remove all of the cards from the layout, you get a prize!

If you get stuck, you can click Undo to undo your last move or two, or click Try Again to get another crack at the puzzle. Once you've uncovered the last card in the puzzle, your prize will be revealed! Some of the exciting prizes you can win are...

-1 Stroke cards! These cards remove 1 from your score. (Remember, this is golf. Lower scores are a good thing.)

Tokens! Yay! Everybody loves tokens!

Wild Card If you get a wild card, it will magically turn one random card somewhere in the playing field into a wild on your next course.

Golden Shot Card This will add another Gold Shot card to your inventory.

Here are some helpful tips and tricks to playing this solitaire game of Golf Solitaire!

Courses and Rounds
Every game of Golf Solitaire is played on a 5-hole course, and everybody in the room plays through the course at the same time. Please note that although you have the same layout as everybody else in the room, the cards themselves are randomly shuffled from player to player.

Scoring
Once the round is over, your score is equal to the number of cards you had left on the playing field, minus the par score for that round. For instance, if you're playing a hand with a par of 5 and you have 4 cards remaining on the playing field, you'll have a score of -1. Just like in a real game of golf, the lower the score the better. (Unlike a real game of golf, however, you don't need to play while wearing plaid pants.) When it comes to determining score, we don't count Golden Shot cards or Wild Cards.

Note that you can never score more than +5 in a particular hole. So if you mess up one hole really badly, you still have a chance of making a comeback in this card game online.

The winner of the round is the player who had the lowest score in the round. The winner of an entire course is the player who has the lowest cumulative score across all the holes.

Joining Late
If you join a Golf Solitaire game late, you'll receive an "n/a" for the holes you didn't play. That's okay, we still love you, but it just means that you'll be ranked lower than somebody who played more holes than you. So, for example, if you join a game late, play the last hole and earn a score of -3, a player who played all five holes and received a total score of -1 will be ranked higher than you.

If this happens, it's not a big deal. Just finish out the course, and when you start the next course on Hole 1 along with everybody else, your score will be counted like normal.

Courses

There are several different courses to play in Golf Solitaire, and we'll be adding more as time goes on. Try 'em all! Each course has a different set of layouts, and Club Pogo members get to see some nifty new backgrounds when they move from one course to the next.

The winner of the previous round gets to choose what course the room will play next. You'll be given a choice of three courses to choose from - pick the one you like best!

Ranks

Club Pogo players get to earn ranks and badges for playing the card game! Your progress towards the next rank is based on the number of Hazard Cards you're able to remove from the playing field. The more Hazards you remove, the quicker you make it to the next rank.

Ranks are presented in Golf Solitaire as caddies. The first rank you'll earn, for instance, is Doug, the Surly Teenager. After that, you'll get Olaf the Viking, then El Portador, the wrestlin' caddy, and so on and so forth. There are 40 ranks in all, and you get badges at ranks 5, 10, 20, 30, and 40.

Tokens

You earn tokens for a number of different things in Golf Solitaire. You earn tokens for...
- Removing Hazards from the playing field
-Finishing a hole under par
-Having the longest streak in a round
-Coming in first, second, third, etc. in any round

The exact number of tokens can change depending on the number of people in the room. (Coming in first place in a room with 2 people in it is much less impressive than coming in first place in a room full of 20 people.)

Prizes
If you should win a jackpot or one of our prize drawings, you will receive an e-mail directing you to a prize confirmation page where you must enter your real name, accurate e-mail address and other pertinent information. To claim a jackpot or any other prize, you must enter this contact information and conform to the eligibility requirements documented in our Golf Solitaire Prize Rules.

Strategies to help you win

- Try to play hazard cards last in a streak. For example, if you have a 5 showing, and there's a 4-3-4 in the playing field, and one of those 4s is a hazard, try to play it like 4 (normal) - 3 - 4 (hazard). If you played the 4 hazard first, you wouldn't be able play the rest of the streak without using a Golden Shot card.
- 1s and 11s are extra hard to get rid of, because there's only one number you can use to remove them, so if you have your choice between removing a 9 or an 11, we usually go for the 11.
- Make sure you remove cards that are blocking other cards before removing cards at the top of a column.
- Try to look ahead whenever you can. It'll help you plan out some crazy streaks that way!
