The gameplay in Hangman Hijinks is very straightforward - guess letters correctly to spell the 3 main words, then solve the bonus word for extra points. Regardless of how simple this may sound, however, the free word game requires thought and planning to maximize your performance.

Your main goal is to solve the 3 main words before guessing wrong 7 times. To accomplish your goal, you have to start somewhere, so take your best shot and guess a letter you think has a good chance to appear. If you can string together multiple correct guesses, your multiplier will increase, as shown by the stick figure girl climbing the ladder. Unfortunately, any wrong guess will send her back to the bottom to start over.

If you are able to solve a single word, it may just be the catalyst you need to solve the other words. In the three main difficulty modes, all of the words that appear are themed. You can see which theme you're playing while in Easy mode, but in Medium and Hard mode, the category name is hidden. While not having the category name visible certainly makes the game more difficult, you should be able to use any solved words as clues to the nature of the other words in the puzzle.

Once you solve the 3 main words, you'll have an opportunity to solve the bonus word. The Bonus Round has 2 phases in Hangman Hijinks:
- Make your free guesses. (5 in Easy, 4 in Medium, or 3 in Hard/Random) You'll see how many you got right after you enter your final guess.
-Complete the word without making a mistake. In this "sudden death" mode, any wrong guess ends the word game. Note that you still get credit for winning the main game, even if you don't solve the bonus word.

Scoring:
For each correctly guessed letter, you receive a set point value. Points (per difficulty mode) are awarded as follows:

- Easy - 1 point per letter
- Medium - 2 points per letter
- Hard/Random - 3 points per letter

If you reveal several letters with one guess, you get combined credit for each of them. Additionally, each letter that scores is multiplied by the current multiplier value. For example, in Easy Mode, if your first guess is "E" and there are 2 in the puzzle, you'll get 2 points (1+1) times the current multiplier (1x) = 2 points. Let's say your next guess is "S" and there are 4 in the puzzle - now you'll get 4 points (1+1+1+1) times the current multiplier (1.5x) = 6 points. Note that fractional values are rounded down in this game, so if you scored 3 points x 1.5, you would actually only receive 4 points.

In the Bonus Round, you stand to win a fairly significant number of Tokens depending on your performance. Your multiplier from the main game carries over into the bonus round, and if you solve the bonus word, you'll get a set number of points times the current multiplier. Points (per difficulty mode) are awarded as follows:

Easy - 5 points
Medium - 15 points
Hard - 30 points

If you manage to guess every letter without ever making a mistake, you will receive a Perfect Game Bonus in addition to your regular game points. Points (per difficulty mode) are awarded as follows:

Easy - 20 points
Medium - 50 points
Hard - 100 points

Here are some tips and tricks to playing this fun word game of Hangman Hijinks! Playing free word games have never been this fun!

Starting with a common letter like "E" or "S" is a good way to get the ball rolling, but since these letters tend to appear multiple times, you may miss out on a good scoring opportunity later on in the game if you can increase your multiplier value. There is certainly a delicate balance between scoring and making progress, but it's something to keep in mind if you really want to maximize your score.

Skill Levels:
Increasing your skill level in Hangman Hijinks has three primary effects:
-More points per letter guessed. (1 in Easy, 2 in Medium, 3 in Hard/Random)
-Less guesses in the bonus round. (5 in Easy, 4 in Medium, 3 in Hard/Random)
-Removal of the category marquee. (only in Medium and above)

In terms of the words you'll be presented with, every puzzle (except in Random Mode) will be generated from a categorized list. So, even if you can't see the category name, you can still get hints from the words you've solved to pin down the category and make more educated guesses. The only exception to this rule is Hard mode, which uses a categorized list in the main game but features a random word in the Bonus Round.

Aside from the words not being categorized, scoring and the number of guesses in Random Mode are the same as in Hard Mode. Random Mode is definitely for players who desire a truly challenging experience!

Ranks:
Hangman Hijinks has 50 ranks that you can earn as you progress through the free word game. Your rank is located on in the lower-left corner of the screen, just below the SPIN indicator. You can click on the rank image at any time during the game to check your progress towards the next rank.

Each time you light up the word "SPIN" by winning the game 4 times, you are awarded rank points towards the next rank. There are 5 rank badges you can win in Hangman Hijinks. The badges are given out when you achieve ranks 10, 20, 30, 40 and 50.

Ranks are only for Club Pogo players!

Hangman Hijinks • Re: Token Limiter Question

By Mod_Kyra » January 28th, 2014, 4:12 pm

Of course it it.

But to echo your sentiments...they are only tokens. The real reward is in knowing what you've accomplished.

I once read a wonderful sentiment and try to take it to heart. I've found it changes my perspective.

"The difference between an adventure and an ordeal is attitude."

I do try and limit the things that frustrate me to the things that matter most, for my own peace of mind.

Hangman Hijinks • Re: Token Limiter Question

By JNET0202 » January 28th, 2014, 1:34 am

I also have had my debit & credit cards stolen and used, and yes, it is a major headache. I'm certainly not wishing misfortune on anyone; but to give your personal information out there just to get tokens ....????
I have tried to take time in between rounds and that doesn't work. Not really all that important but it is frustrating to accomplish something and not get rewarded for it.

I recognize that sentiment, although I don't agree with it. As someone who has had my identity stolen; regardless of reason, it's a huge headache at the least and for some, could be devastating.

I'm sure we all make choices that aren't in our best interests. I know I do; sometimes even when I know better. I'm only human.

While some people may be gullible It doesn't mean that they deserve misfortune. I do applaud Pogo in their efforts to combat identity theft. The token limiter is one way of doing that so just take a minute or two between games to avoid running into the limiter.

Hangman Hijinks • Re: Token Limiter Question

By Mod_Kyra » January 22nd, 2014, 4:11 pm

While it's frustrating to encounter the limiter for players who are simply very good at the games, it's for a good reason.
The problem with people cheating is that the tokens they amass are then used for a far more serious purpose than mini mall purchases...those folks post scam sites in chat, promising loads of tokens. There are always some who are unwary and disregard the common sense rule that "too good to be true" is usually a truism. They visit the site for those tokens and give up their personal information in exchange, opening themselves to identity theft.

I'm glad Pogo does what it can to limit that damage. As you say, they are only tokens. After the first 20 million or so, a few hundred become a drop in my bucket. I can't possibly ever spend what I've gotten. Although I suppose I could lose them readily in the virtual casino games. Poker is not my strong suit.
