Match Tiles via Connecting Line
In the Mahjong Safari puzzle game, your goal is to match tiles with a connecting line that has two or fewer turns. The farther apart the tiles, the higher your score. For the highest possible score, create combos by matching tiles quickly one after another.

Look for Special Tiles
  • Four Stars - There are four, special Star tiles in each puzzle game. Match those to earn one of the three power ups available in Mahjong Safari.
  • Mini-Animals - These are the only tiles that don't have identical matches. Match the two halves of the same animal to earn a mini-animal on the left side of the screen. Collect ten and you win a spin.

3 Unique Power Ups to Earn
  • Shuffle Power Up - The Shuffle Power Up allows you to mix up all the tiles when you get stuck.
  • Long Line Power Up - The Long Line Power Up allows you to match two tiles with more than two turns.
  • Hint Power Up - Earn the Hint Power Up and get a hint about an available match.

Track Your Progress
In the lower left part of the screen, you will notice two numbers:
  • Tiles
  • Available Matches
These are useful to notice throughout the game so you can track your progress and know how many matches are available.

There are lots of ways to earn tokens in Mahjong Safari! Here are some tips to keep in mind:

The higher your Score, the more tokens you earn in this puzzle game. For every 100 points, you earn 1 token. Get a high score by matching tiles that are long distances away, and by making long Combos.

The higher your Score, the more tokens you earn. For every 100 points, you earn 1 token.

100 Points
=
1 Token

At the end of each successful puzzle game, you get a game complete bonus. Harder difficulties award more tokens since they take longer to complete.

If you complete a game and still have some powerups left over, you'll earn 10 bonus tokens per powerup.

At the end of a successful game that you completed quickly, you earn a Time Bonus.

During the puzzle game, if you make an animal-specific combo, you'll earn an extra 30 tokens per animal combo. For instance, match two pandas, then quickly match two pandas again, and you'll earn a Panda combo.

If you complete a safari by collecting 10-mini animals, you'll get a bonus of 100 tokens (and Pogo will give 100 tokens to someone else in the room.) Those tokens are awarded instantly, not at the end of the game! You will also win a spin, which may award some tokens.

If you're playing in a room with other people, when they complete a safari, you will once in a while get a bonus gift of 100 tokens for their efforts! Those tokens are awarded instantly, not at the end of the game! In most cases, only active players will receive gifts, so staying in a room without playing won't earn you tokens.

Thanks for responding. That makes a much sense as anything else I've heard. It's jut so blooming frustrating. Used to be more "fun" to see the progress. Our team will keep on trying.

Mahjong Safari • Re: Frustration with Scoring

Some games are more competitive during some tournaments and less during others.

For example, my team doesn't usually go for Silver in Sweet Tooth 2 but the cutoff score was lower last tournament because a lot of teams signed up and played due to the Wednesday challenge.

If there are normally 5000 teams that join and get a score in Mahjong Safari, that results in 500 Gold teams since Gold is the top 10% of teams. If only 4000 join and get a score, there are only 400 spots available for Gold so the cutoff score is likely to be much higher due to competition for that reduced number of spots.

It seems that some teams are quitting the tournament. The fewer teams that play, the harder it is to get Silver and Gold.

Mahjong Safari • Frustration with Scoring

By mkd12345_ » August 25th, 2016, 9:19 am

At least one other member of my team and I have noticed that this on this round of tournaments, the scoring for all games seems to be tougher. In past games, if we were at gold and the next day back to silver (and YES, we realize the scores are fluid) we'd play diligently for several hours and regain gold (or at least could see the 'bar' progressing toward gold). Now, it seems that it's almost impossible to even reach gold. Don't know if this is a reflection of an increased number of players or something "wrong" but it's very frustrating. Not as much fun and an almost impossible challenge. This seems to have occurred after that 10+ hour period when Pogo was offline a few weeks ago. Anyone else experiencing this?

Mahjong Safari • Re: Flash Games

By CAGal1950 » August 22nd, 2016, 6:06 pm

Everyday, more and more games get more and more Badges. The Mini Mall gets more animated items. More and more Members Chat icons are animated. All that means more and more Flash is used. If your computer is over 5 years old and has 4gbs of RAM or less AND you have a low end processor, then you will need to "jump through hoops" to play on Pogo, if "jumping" means cleaning your Flash Cache, your browsers temp files and updating Flash and Java.
In recent years browsers have made changes. Chrome stopped supporting Java. Firefox will do the same at the end of this year.
Windows 10 introduced a new browser: Edge. It doesn't support Java either. And, as for Internet Explorer 11. That will be the last version Microsoft will make, so you can count on it fading into the sunset.
The "good old days" are gone.
Freezing and being booted could be your internet connection. Checking to see if your provider has an update for your modem or maybe newer one might help. Also, if you use a router, it might need updating or replacing.

You clear caches once a day? I clear caches and restart the browser for every hour of game play or even more often if the game starts to get laggy.

As for Flash, it is what it is. Pogo isn't the only site with Flash issues.

Mahjong Safari • Flash Games

By hyprtnr » August 22nd, 2016, 4:07 pm

My problem is getting kicked out of Pogo's server several times a day. And today it freezes up before the spin and I lose everything I did in that game. It doesn't help to clear all the caches (I do it on a daily basis since Pogo no longer performs well) or which browser I'm forced to used. It's the flash games that don't work right. And, yes. It is very frustrating. Bring the old days back when the games worked the way they should. I will now attempt to play a game without any problems. No matter what game I'm playing there is always a problem - Spades, Canasta, Mahjong Escape, you name it. They freeze, I get kicked out, they won't load (get a black or white screen), or I don't get the spin, etc. I with these problems would get corrected once and for all. I shouldn't have to jump through hoops in order to play.

Make sure you clear your browser's cache before you start playing. Also clear your Flash cache before starting a long play session.

Another thing to check is your mouse.

If you have a wired mouse, take it apart and clean it.
If you have a wireless mouse, replace the battery.
No matter what mouse you have, consider replacing it if it is old because the left click function wears out after being used over and over again.
It's such a subtle change so you may not notice it at first or in every game, but it will result in the issue you've described.
I replace my mouse once or twice a year,

You can change out the characters, there is a thing on the top left hand side of the board with other tiles to use.

Just so you know, when you post here, you are communicating with other members and not Pogo staff.

To contact Pogo, use the Help link in the upper, right-hand side of the page.

Personally, I have my favourite layouts and typically will click New Game until I get those layouts.

You could try playing on a lower difficulty level it would give you new layouts to play.

I don't know about the rest of you that play this game but I usually play the "hard" version. I think it's getting a tad monotonous.
I think they need to start working on new characters to use and also, the format needs to be changed up. It's the same thing over and over again. Come on Techies, I know you can come up with something different. You could mix the characters with planets and stars and sea creatures and I'm sure you can come up with a few new different formats.

You're welcome.

The amount of animals that are available in 2 pairs change from puzzle to puzzle and by difficulty level as well.

On hard difficulty level, the Thick Spiral puzzle has about 14 animals available in 2 pairs.
