Checkmate Your Opponent
The object of this board game is to checkmate your opponent by positioning your pieces so that your opponent's king is immobilized or captured. When it's your turn, you may move your pieces in two different ways:
  • Move a piece to an unoccupied square
  • Move a piece to a square occupied by an opponent's piece, capturing that piece and removing it from the board.

Play Against the Computer
The ability of a Computer player varies by the rating of the room you're in. Beginning players should play in Beginner or Social rooms to use the easiest computer opponents. To play against the computer: click a room, find an empty table, and click 'Play'.

Chess Preferences
The "Preferences" button at the bottom of the game table brings up three options.
  • Highlight Last Move Made
  • Highlight Potential Moves
  • Display Animations
You'll also find information about Move History and Files and Ranks.

Ending the Game
An online board game of Chess always ends either with a win for one player or a draw. You win either when you checkmate your opponent's king or when your opponent resigns.

If you have a powerful computer and a fast Internet connection, it may seem that your opponent is getting extra time to make his or her moves. Actually, what's probably happening is that your opponent has a slower computer or slower Net connection, and thus your clock is starting up sooner to compensate or the delay. No, the other player isn't getting an advantage (because he or she won't be able to see your last move any faster), our system is just leveling the playing field. In the end, you'll both have the same amount of time to make your moves.

A pre-set number of seconds are added to your chess clock after you make your move. This is to compensate for a prolonged game - even if you have no time left on your normal chess clock, you'll still have this "bonus" time to make a move. The default number of seconds is 3, but can be adjusted anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds.

Chess • [GLOBAL] Errors in Subscription Renewal Dates

By Pogo_Cactuar » April 23rd, 2014, 3:38 pm

We are aware that a number of users are seeing incorrect renewal dates displaying on their My Account pages. Some users that are on an annual subscription and were recently billed are showing that their next billing date will be in May 2014 which is incorrect. We are correcting this issue and it should reflect on your My Account page shortly. You should be billed during the correct billing cycle related to your individual account.

By Pogo_Cactuar » April 22nd, 2014, 10:55 pm

Both of these issues should now be resolved and you should be able to play previously purchased episodes in our Hidden Object Games as well as purchase more.

For those players questioning about the sale in Amazing Adventures today (4/22) the sale is currently on until 4/22 11:59pm PDT, so you should still be able to participate.

Chess • [RESOLVED] Purchased items showing as unpurchased

By Pogo_Cactuar » April 22nd, 2014, 7:50 pm

Our team is aware of some users seeing purchased items showing as being un-purchased in some areas, such as our Hidden Object Games. As well as when you attempt to purchase something for Gems, you may be receiving a message that states you do not have Gems when you really do. The team is currently investigating this issue and is working on a solution for it.

We recommend for the time being that you do not attempt to purchase the item for a second time.

Our team is working to have the issue resolved soon.

Chess • Re: Sorry You lost, You Resigned

By Seska42 » March 17th, 2014, 2:20 am

Looking at the chat area in your screen shot, the other player had already left because it says

fitzycat8 is now the host.

before it says

fitzycat8 has resigned.

which means that you were the only live person at the table even though it looks like the other person is still sitting there. I think their clock stopped because they left the table.

I believe the rated games are set so that you would have had to wait for another real person to sit down before you took any action (besides waiting) in order to be given credit for a rated win.

Those prompt messages should be changed since the button you hit told you that you would be getting a win when you were actually resigned from the game, but at least now you know that they aren't always accurate messages.

Thanks for the reply, I thought maybe a Pogo glitch but it always happens when the other player is at the point of losing and their clock stops ..... looks fishy to me !!

Chess • Sorry You lost, You Resigned

By fitzycat8 » March 3rd, 2014, 1:44 am

..... but I didn't. 7 seconds left on opponents clock and it stops.
Then the box 'do you want to wait for player' , I click yes and the
other box pops up 'click resume to take the win'.

It has happened a few times before .........

Chess • Re: [Chess] Experiencing difficulty, post here!

By cokaz1 » March 1st, 2014, 10:57 pm

Lately I've experienced games just disappearing suddenly off the screen in the middle of play, with no way to reenter them. Somethimes this is preceded by a tiny rotating circle that appears on the playing board right by the cursor--then poof, the screen goes blank.

Anyone else running into this problem?
