Checkmate Your Opponent
The object of this board game is to checkmate your opponent by positioning your pieces so that your opponent's king is immobilized or captured. When it's your turn, you may move your pieces in two different ways:
  • Move a piece to an unoccupied square
  • Move a piece to a square occupied by an opponent's piece, capturing that piece and removing it from the board.

Play Against the Computer
The ability of a Computer player varies by the rating of the room you're in. Beginning players should play in Beginner or Social rooms to use the easiest computer opponents. To play against the computer: click a room, find an empty table, and click 'Play'.

Chess Preferences
The "Preferences" button at the bottom of the game table brings up three options.
  • Highlight Last Move Made
  • Highlight Potential Moves
  • Display Animations
You'll also find information about Move History and Files and Ranks.

Ending the Game
An online board game of Chess always ends either with a win for one player or a draw. You win either when you checkmate your opponent's king or when your opponent resigns.

If you have a powerful computer and a fast Internet connection, it may seem that your opponent is getting extra time to make his or her moves. Actually, what's probably happening is that your opponent has a slower computer or slower Net connection, and thus your clock is starting up sooner to compensate or the delay. No, the other player isn't getting an advantage (because he or she won't be able to see your last move any faster), our system is just leveling the playing field. In the end, you'll both have the same amount of time to make your moves.

A pre-set number of seconds are added to your chess clock after you make your move. This is to compensate for a prolonged game - even if you have no time left on your normal chess clock, you'll still have this "bonus" time to make a move. The default number of seconds is 3, but can be adjusted anywhere from 1 to 10 seconds.

It is an issue between Adobe and Apple and only they can fix it.

Pogo cannot fix another company's product.

Try using the Chrome browser for now.

Some people are having success with other browsers too.

The easy way to send the email of your game is
to do it just before your last move.

Send the email and then write in the last move
when you receive it.

You are not able to send it after you finish or
win the game.

I've had this prob since Pogo changed the chess table window. During the 1st game, the save game button is enabled, and works fine. Once the game ends the button becomes disabled, and never works again.

Saving games is a great way to learn from mistakes. I can't be the only one with this prob, can I?

P.S.: When a game ended, the option to save it was on the small pop-up window, where you chose to continue playing or leave the table. I haven't seen that option since the switch to the new table screen.

Also, I'm using the IE browser, and XP Pro.

I had to use the screenshot function on my Mac. There is probably something like the that in Windows. Try the help "screenshot" or "screen saver".

Where can I find the rules for Chess?

In some games the opponent resigns and I end up loosing because I resigned after waiting for player.

You can set up a game any way you want by selecting a room first. Then select an empty table. Check your preferences on the Table Options pop up window. Check Use these setting the next time I play. Click Play and either wait for a player or play the bots.
Please note: you cannot play a rated game against the bots.
