The object of Phlinx is to create groups of 3 or more matching sones and make them disappear. Free the four captured glyphs and win the puzzle game!

Gameplay consists mostly of using your sun disk to shoot stones into the playing field. To aim your sun disk, just move your mouse around in the playing field. You'll see that the sun disk rotates to follow your cursor, and an aiming line shows you where your shot will land. Once you are satisfied with your aim, click the left mouse button to fire!

If you're having trouble finding a good shot, you can also move your disk to any of the three different platforms you see at the bottom of the screen. To move to a different platform, either left-click on the platform or use the space bar to rotate between platforms.

Once you have launched a stone, it will travel in a straight line, bouncing off the pillars on the sides, until it hits another stone in the playing field. The stone will join the rest of the playing field at the point where it landed. If that stone becomes part of a group of 3 or more stones of the same color, they'll disappear.

If, after these stones disappear, there are other stones disconnected from the rest of the playing field, they'll fall to the ground. These stones then make their way down the ramp and knock the progress meter closer and closer to its goal at the top of the pillar. It's by releasing these stones, not just making matches, that you earn tokens and win the game.

Your sun disk contains two stones. The larger stone in front is the one you currently have loaded. The smaller stone in back indicates the next color that will be loaded into your sun disk.

As you make shots, new rows will be added to the playing field. These new rows will be added based on the number of shots you make, not the amount of time you take. So feel free to take your time between shots to aim, chat, read a short romance novel, or bake a batch of chocolate-chip cookies for your favorite game developers (Cough cough.) The rows won't advance during that time.

Here are some tips and tricks to help you enjoy a game of Phlinx the free online puzzle game!

Don't forget you can bounce stones off the side pillars. This will help you make matches higher up in the playing field so you can drop lots of stones. It helps you a lot in the nighttime stage.

If you're having trouble lining up a shot, don't forget that (in the daytime) you can move your sun disk to different platforms. You can line up better shots that way.

Remember that making lots of stones fall is the key to winning, not just making matches.

At the end of every round, we provide you with a helpful hint. Be sure to read those.

Are you clearing your Flash cache in addition to clearing your browser's cache?

If you are playing a long session it's a good idea to clear your Flash cache right before starting the game. You might have to clear it again after playing about an hour, hour and a half.

I think that you need to clear your cache memories in Flash and your browser. You need to empty your junk files then do a disc clean and a defrag.

I assume that you do have sufficient RAM to play.

WOW! HERE'S A NEW ONE FOR ME -WANTED TO PLAY PHLINX - GOT THIS

Not Enough Memory Available
Explanation:
Your browser does not have enough free memory to run the game.

The game applet requires approximately 3MB of free memory to run, in addition to your browser's normal memory requirements.

How to Fix the Problem:
Make sure you do not have any other applications running. Each application uses up a portion of your computer's memory and resources.

Make sure you do not have multiple copies of your browser running. Each extra copy of your browser is using some of your computer's memory and resources.

Uninstall any large plug-ins (such as Shockwave) you may have installed. Each installed plug-in uses up some of your computer's memory and resources.

If none of these suggestions fix the problem, you may need to purchase more RAM for your computer.

Phlinx • Re: fourth round usually higher difficulty?

By jazzcatspirit » March 22nd, 2016, 6:02 am

Well I do play on 'normal' difficulty, so I can get more points. Haven't noticed much difference between easy and normal, but a fair difference in hard difficulty. However, very strangely, tonight I have had NO problem finishing 4th round! First time I've not had this problem in months, and I played at least four games, so go figure. It gives a new meaning to 'random'.
Thanks everyone for the input. Good luck in all your gaming.

Yes Vane is right.
On beginner we get the same colors on every round. On higher levels it adds a color on the latest rounds, on medium only on round 4, probably on higher levels it adds more. It makes sense, many games become more difficult as they move to the next round. It doesn't happen on beginner and it makes sense too. It's beginner after all, it has to be easy and stay easy.

Exactly the opposite for me. I have always thought that the difficulty increases with each round (just like what happens with Sweet Tooth 2 for instance where the puzzle shape changes for each of the 3 rounds and is, or seems, more difficult).
I have always played with this in mind but I have to say that I play "Beginners" level so I guess the progression in the difficulty is not noticeable but wonder about the Hard or Expert levels.
(gonna try to check it out I guess)

I've have been playing this game since 2006 and have earned every Weekly and all the other Badges for this game, and have never noticed that the 4 rounds are any different. I do play on EASY, though and seldom have to replay a round.
When there are a lot of single colors, then I use the firing ball to build the colors up to 3. I do usually go for the big drops. Ends the round quicker. But, I've not noticed that the 4 round is any more difficult then the first 3.
Maybe someone else has and will post.

Phlinx • fourth round usually higher difficulty?

By jazzcatspirit » March 21st, 2016, 7:01 pm

I have experienced in most every game that the fourth round seems to be quite a bit more challenging. For instance, I usually have no problem getting through first 3 rounds, but when fourth round comes, I constantly get a colored ball for which there is not anything to match; or the balls are displayed in single colors next to each other, nothing where there are two together; or similar difficulty. With the exception of maybe 3 times in 18 mos. this has happened every time. What is going on? I did not see any indication of 'higher or progressing difficulty' for fourth round explained in the 'how to play' section. Anyone else have this experience? I wind up having to replay 4th round quite often. Very annoying.

Phlinx froze up for me, as well. But the tokens were still awarded to me; I got them as soon as the room started to load.

Phlinx • Re: Scoring

By Seska42 » March 15th, 2016, 3:02 am

The Next Level at: information on the My Tournaments tab and in chat is currently incorrect. In addition to that, the ribbon cutoff levels are a moving target because the final team scores aren't frozen until the Tournament ends. Your team might have Gold one minute and Silver the next when a team behind you keeps playing and exceeds your score.

To find how far your score actually is away from the current cutoff score for an adjacent ribbon, you need to go to the Leaderboards tab, choose a specific game, and use the arrow to move through the pages until you find where the ribbon changes. That score will only be valid right then because the teams keep playing right up until the Tournament ends.

By PlayPggylw » March 15th, 2016, 12:37 am

What's with the scoring in the Tournament? I was at 9 thous. something away from gold level. The next day I was at 13 thous. something away, and now I am at 26,543 away from the gold level. I really don't understand.
