Pogo™ Bowl provides a simple but powerful interface to make your shots. Start out by moving the mouse left or right to get the ball into the desired position. Once you have the ball where you want it, click on the ball to set the position. While holding the mouse button down, drag the mouse up into the lane area - you will notice a pointer being drawn as you do this. Move the pointer to the desired location and release the mouse button to initiate the throw. The faster you move the mouse and release the mouse button, the faster your throw will be. If you pause before throwing, the pointer will "cool" down (denoted by the change in color from red to yellow) and your throw will be slower.

You can bowl a maximum of two balls per frame from frames 1-9, and a maximum of three balls on the 10th frame. The following results are possible:
  • If you knock down all of the pins on your first throw, you get a Strike. A Strike is worth 10 points plus whatever you bowl on your next two throws.
  • If you knock down some (or none) of the pins on your first throw and knock down the remaining pins on the next throw, you get a Spare. A Spare is worth 10 points plus whatever you bowl on your next throw.
  • If you knock down some (or none) of the pins on your first throw and are unable to knock down the remaining pins on the next throw, you are considered to have bowled an "open" frame. Bowling an open frame hurts your ability to get high scores, but you can usually recover by bowling Strikes and Spares.

On the 10th frame (and only on the 10th frame), it is possible to throw three balls instead of two. If you Strike on your first throw, you will get two more throws; or, if you Spare on your second throw, you will get one more throw. The maximum score you can reach in one game (also known as a "Perfect" game) is 300 points. At the end of each game, the number of pins you knock down is converted into Tokens at a 1:1 ratio. On top of this, you can earn more Tokens for knocking down bonus pins or winning the Strike it Rich bonus. You can read more about these in the other sections of the help file.

Here are some additional pointers designed to help you become a more advanced Pogo™ Bowl player.

To get consistent scores, try to find a shot that knocks down most or all of the pins each time you throw the ball. If you can recreate a good shot, your chances of getting a high score are very good. You can also help yourself by leaving simple spares. Complicated spares occur when the ball "gets away" from you. It's almost impossible to avoid these moments, but try to keep them to a minimum if you can.

Although you do not have to apply spin to bowl well, Pogo™ Bowl simulates part of real-life Bowling by allowing you to add spin to your shot. However, unlike real Bowling, you can impart spin on the ball at any time after you've thrown the ball (but before it impacts with the pins).

Once you have released the ball, you can click and hold the left or right mouse buttons to add spin to the ball. The left mouse button imparts left spin (which makes the ball eventually curve to the left) while the right mouse button imparts right spin (which makes the ball eventually curve to the right). Depending on the speed of the ball, the spin may take effect sooner or later and may be more or less exaggerated - you'll have to experiment with the direction and speed of your shots as well as the amount of spin to perfect your throws, but it can help you get more pin "action" on impact or, even more importantly, alter the path of a poorly thrown ball.

Change your "Game Mode" to Fast Rooms and you won't get those signs (On the "Chat room" tab)

Another possibility is the browser you're using. I use google chrome for pogo bowl because when I used firefox, a lot of times the browser was freezing and chrome seems to have fixed that problem for me.

Don't release your finger off the mouse button until you're sure you're ready to send the ball down the lane. You can also somewhat control the ball by clicking the left and right mouse buttons after you release the ball.

How do you stop the ball from running way? I drag the cursor down to the pins like I am supposed to do but then the ball takes off and goes straight for the left gutter. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, how do I stop the ball from running away?

Pogo Bowl • Re: Strike it Rich badge: Gold Pins (MERGED THREAD)

By ElysaB29 » August 25th, 2015, 12:20 am

ourdrmom...I had the same problem with getting 4 golds in 2 hours. I remember back then I even complained to pogo and told them with each game taking 10 minutes and getting a gold every 5 to 6 games if you're lucky, it was practically impossible to do unless you're extremely lucky and get 2 in a row. They, of course, gave me a pat answer that it can be done if persistent. So.. what they were saying that with 2 hours time allowed at 10 minutes a game, you have 12 games to get 4 golds. The only thing that worked for me was right after getting a gold pin, I would switch to another room and start another game if the new game was near the beginning. Finally it worked but I was kind of ticked off that they did nothing to make that badge easier. I even looked at my stats to see how often I got gold compared to the total number of games I played. So anyone doing this badge, here is some advice...it beats the option of pulling every hair out of your head. ;)

To get to that setting, go to your Friend's List page and scroll down to the bottom. Click on the link Manage Profile Privacy. Enter your password where indicated and click the Continue button.

Look on the left-hand side of the page for the Security link. Click on that and scroll down to the bottom of the page. Select the option Open games in a pop up window. And then click the Save Changes button. Wait until the page scrolls back up before you navigate away from that page.

Note that the optioin to Open games in a pop up window will only work with games that were released on Pogo prior to 2010 or 2011.

I finished my Premium Bowling badge album while I did the 15 gold pins badge. It didn't seem so long
while I was trying to get 50 strikes. lol

I just completed the "Strike It Rich" challenge requiring knocking down "15" gold pins. The room that worked for me was the "Free Bowlers" room. At one point, I got "3" gold pins in-a-row. Good Luck!
