Spades

Can you succeed against the superstars in online Spades? Pair up with a partner in this four-player online card game of wits. Be the first team to score 500 points by estimating how many tricks you and your partner can take in each round to win.

Practice Before You Play
Play against the computer to improve your Spades skills.

Choose Your Opponent
Test your card game skills against the highest caliber of online Spades players.

Take a Trick
In this card game, each partnership tries to take at least the number of tricks they bid on before Spades play is began.

Bags and Bagging Out
A common feature in Spades is designed to penalize players for underestimating the number of tricks they will take, while at the same time not removing the possible strategy of intentionally taking overtricks, or "bags".

Spades is a card game for 4 players. Players sitting across from each other are partners on the same team. The object of this online card game version of Spades is to be the first team to score 500 points.

At the start of the round, each player is dealt 13 cards. Select 1 card from your hand, and then click on the "Pass" button to pass the card to your partner. You will receive 1 card that your partner has passed to you.

Estimate how many tricks you can take during this round. A trick is a group of 4 cards, 1 card from each player. Your bid and your partner's bid are added together, and this is the number of tricks that your team must take.

Now the play begins. The player to the left of the dealer plays a card.

Card game play continues clockwise. When it is your turn, the blue "Play" prompt will appear above your cards. Double-click on a white card to play it. You must play a card of the same suit as the first card if you can. If you don't have any cards in the suit that was led, you can play any card.

Spades are always trump, meaning that they outrank all other suits. When each player has played a card, the person who played the highest Spade wins these cards for his or her team. This is called winning a trick. If no trump was played, the person who played the highest card in the suit that was led wins the trick. Aces are the highest card.

The player who won the trick now leads a card. Play continues in this manner until all 4 players have played all of their cards.

Here are some additional pointers designed to help you become a more advanced Spades player.

In this online card game, you cannot lead a Spade until Spades have been BROKEN. Spades are broken when someone plays a Spade because they did not have any cards in the suit that was led. Note: If Spades have not been broken, you may lead Spades if you have no other suits in your hand.

You cannot lead a Spade until someone has played a Spade on another trick. The only exception to this rule is if you have no other cards in your hand.

On the first trick, if you cannot follow suit, you can trump the trick with a Spade.

Other potential players in the game room can join your game in progress. This is most useful if a player drops out and you don't want to play with computer players.

Allows host to filter players who join the game to the skill ratings checked below. At least one of the five ratings (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, or Master) must remain checked. This is a great way to play games with people of similar skill level. When this option is unchecked, the game is open to players of all skill ratings.

This is ridiculous cards not showing up again when you get ready to win a badge.

Works until time to win game, then don't load cards to finish. I should have been able to complete for 2 different badges.

Spades • Options page for table pops up and disappears 2-13

The options page comes up and then disappears. It was doing this a few weeks ago.

Here is another way to remove a pop up blocker:

Add the following to your Pop Up Blocker's Allow list:

pogo.com

game3.pogo.com

pogospike-prod.pogo.com

Your pop up blocker is found in your browser:

Chrome: Click the Chrome bars > Settings > Scroll down to Advanced Settings > Privacy > Content Settings > Pop Ups. (Add the sites listed above).

Firefox: Tools > Options > Content > Click on Exceptions next to "Block Pop Up Windows." Add the sites listed above.

Internet Explorer: Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Scroll down until you see Pop Up Blocker. Click on Settings, and add the sites to your Allow list.

If you use Microsoft Edge, click the three dots at the top right side of your screen.
Click Settings > Advanced Settings.
Make sure that "Block Pop Ups" is turned off.

Spades • Re: Yellow room page pops up and disappears.

From your description, I think that I was having the same, or similar, problem.

I'm using Internet Explorer 11 at Pogo, for the flash and java games.
I did some searching, which is how I arrived here and saw this post on the forum, although it didn't solve the issue.
I did some 'trial and error' and discovered that the problem was in my browser settings. It might help.

In IE 11, or any browser that has 'options' for popups and tab handling, this is my procedure.

In the top, right of the browser window, click the 'tools' (gear) icon ...
In the menu, choose 'internet options' ...
In the 'privacy' tab, turn off the popup blocker, or set it to allow popups from 'pogo.com' and 'game3.pogo.com' ...
In the 'general' tab, down in the middle, see the section 'change how web pages are displayed in tabs' ...
and click the big 'tabs' button ...
In the 'tabs' window that pops open, see the options at the middle ...
'when a pop-up is encountered' ... choose the circle 'always open pop-ups in a new window'
'open links from other programs in' ... choose the circle 'the same tab or window'
Click 'OK', the window closes, click 'apply', then 'OK', then the 'internet options' closes ...

It worked for me ... when I went to Pogo, I entered a game, chose a room, and all the table and options boxes opened ...
when I clicked 'play', the game started normally ...

I was actually surprised, and very happy, that this solved the problem ... on the first attempt!

I hope this helps.

All we can do here, is offer suggestions on resolving your problem. I'm sorry Customer Service sent you here to post. I think they meant for you to post in the Answer HQ on EA's site. Here is the link:

Are you saying that the Options Screen disappears or do you mean that the Options Screen is blank when it appears?

If it's the former, that screen will hide behind your game screen when the game starts.
Click "Options" on the black bar at the bottom of the game screen if you want to view the Options Screen.

If it's the latter, try clicking once or twice in the Options Screen to see if the options appear. Wait a few seconds and click again in that screen. That usually solves the problem.

Also make sure you are choosing a room from the Chat Rooms list and not clicking "Play People" or"Play Robots."

You could also try using a browser other than the one you normally use to see if you have better results.

Well, sorry. I don't know what you do or don't know. I'm a member just like you. I have no idea why you are not getting credit. I earned the badge a few years ago with no problems. I recently complete a Badges for 7 500 point games and didn't experience any trouble.
But, just so you know, no one here can give you your won progress. And, since Customer Service sent you here, that means the they cannot help you either.

Just to make sure, you do know that RATED games are played with real people, not the Bots?
And, the table options are set to RATED and 500 point games?

Spade Tattoo Badge -- win 2 500-point RATED games. I won and got credit for one, and have won many since that first win, but have not received credit or badge completion. Grrrr.
