Can you succeed against the superstars in online Spades? Pair up with a partner in this four-player online card game of wits. Be the first team to score 500 points by estimating how many tricks you and your partner can take in each round to win.

Practice Before You Play
Play against the computer to improve your Spades skills.

Choose Your Opponent
Test your card game skills against the highest caliber of online Spades players.

Take a Trick
In this card game, each partnership tries to take at least the number of tricks they bid on before Spades play is began.

Bags and Bagging Out
A common feature in Spades is designed to penalize players for underestimating the number of tricks they will take, while at the same time not removing the possible strategy of intentionally taking overtricks, or "bags".

Spades is a card game for 4 players. Players sitting across from each other are partners on the same team. The object of this online card game version of Spades is to be the first team to score 500 points.

At the start of the round, each player is dealt 13 cards. Select 1 card from your hand, and then click on the "Pass" button to pass the card to your partner. You will receive 1 card that your partner has passed to you.

Estimate how many tricks you can take during this round. A trick is a group of 4 cards, 1 card from each player. Your bid and your partner's bid are added together, and this is the number of tricks that your team must take.

Now the play begins. The player to the left of the dealer plays a card.

Card game play continues clockwise. When it is your turn, the blue "Play" prompt will appear above your cards. Double-click on a white card to play it. You must play a card of the same suit as the first card if you can. If you don't have any cards in the suit that was led, you can play any card.

Spades are always trump, meaning that they outrank all other suits. When each player has played a card, the person who played the highest Spade wins these cards for his or her team. This is called winning a trick. If no trump was played, the person who played the highest card in the suit that was led wins the trick. Aces are the highest card.

The player who won the trick now leads a card. Play continues in this manner until all 4 players have played all of their cards.

Here are some additional pointers designed to help you become a more advanced Spades player.

In this online card game, you cannot lead a Spade until Spades have been BROKEN. Spades are broken when someone plays a Spade because they did not have any cards in the suit that was led. Note: If Spades have not been broken, you may lead Spades if you have no other suits in your hand.

You cannot lead a Spade until someone has played a Spade on another trick. The only exception to this rule is if you have no other cards in your hand.

On the first trick, if you cannot follow suit, you can trump the trick with a Spade.

Other potential players in the game room can join your game in progress. This is most useful if a player drops out and you don't want to play with computer players.

Allows host to filter players who join the game to the skill ratings checked below. At least one of the five ratings (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, or Master) must remain checked. This is a great way to play games with people of similar skill level. When this option is unchecked, the game is open to players of all skill ratings.

Spades • Re: 2s In Spades

It's been working for 15 years. Don't think they are going to rewrite the whole program because it isn't "optimal" for a few players to have to actually look for a table that suites them. Sorry. ;)

Spades • Boot teammate when losing the game

By zoe55bear » June 28th, 2014, 7:38 am

Has anyone else figured out that you boot your teammate as the time expires so that it freezes the table? There is no way to accept the boot or to extend the time so the only option is to leave the table. It is an easy way for cheaters to not lose. This is a loophole that Pogo needs to close.

C'mon Pogo. The fix is easy. Remove the option to designate a table with 2's or no 2's and make the rooms fixed. If you like playing 2's, then you go into the rooms that allow 2's. If you don't like playing 2's then go into the rooms that don't allow 2's. Options are great but the rooms should be used to filter the options so that once you enter a room, you will be playing the game you want. You could make it even simpler by creating an option decision tree. Show the number of players playing the option being questioned. For example 1000 people playing with 2's and 500 people playing without 2's. Then go to the next decision. 750 people playing a 500 game and 250 people playing a 250 game. Next option being allowed to pass a card, etc, etc. It is not optimal to enter a room and then hunt and peck for a table that has the options you want to play.

Spades and every Java Game--- being told need to have current version of Java -- need to update

but I have the current version:
Browser = Safari 6.1.4
Cookies Enabled? = true
Do Not Track = undefined
Resolution = 1440 x 900
OS = Mac OS X 10.8.5(Mountain Lion)
Flash version = 13.0.0
Java Versions installed = 1.7.0_60

Have done clean install of Java to see if that would help-it doesn't. Neither does clearing caches, rebooting, etc.
Java tests fine on Oracle's website.. Problem just started tonight (June 10/11). Security not set on high…
but middle - which they note should be minimum.
Upsetting because both challenges beginning in a few hours are Java--

@debangell: Your profile is private so I can't check for you.
Go to your profile page and click on the word "Badges" (next to "About Me"). If the badges are there then you did indeed win the badges no matter what it says elsewhere.

Spades is lagging horribly since I upgraded to OX 10.9.3 and upgraded Java It has been happening the last two days, most recently at 8:45 pm EDT, 05/26/2014. I am not very computer savvy and would appreciate the resolution in the simplest form. Thank you
