Can you succeed against the superstars in online Spades? Pair up with a partner in this four-player online card game of wits. Be the first team to score 500 points by estimating how many tricks you and your partner can take in each round to win.

Take a Trick
In this card game, each partnership tries to take at least the number of tricks they bid on before Spades play is began.

Bags and Bagging Out
A common feature in Spades is designed to penalize players for underestimating the number of tricks they will take, while at the same time not removing the possible strategy of intentionally taking overtricks, or "bags".

Spades is a card game for 4 players. Players sitting across from each other are partners on the same team. The object of this online card game version of Spades is to be the first team to score 500 points.

At the start of the round, each player is dealt 13 cards. Select 1 card from your hand, and then click on the "Pass" button to pass the card to your partner. You will receive 1 card that your partner has passed to you.

Estimate how many tricks you can take during this round. A trick is a group of 4 cards, 1 card from each player. Your bid and your partner's bid are added together, and this is the number of tricks that your team must take.

Now the play begins. The player to the left of the dealer plays a card.

Card game play continues clockwise. When it is your turn, the blue "Play" prompt will appear above your cards. Double-click on a white card to play it. You must play a card of the same suit as the first card if you can. If you don't have any cards in the suit that was led, you can play any card.

Spades are always trump, meaning that they outrank all other suits. When each player has played a card, the person who played the highest Spade wins these cards for his or her team. This is called winning a trick. If no trump was played, the person who played the highest card in the suit that was led wins the trick. Aces are the highest card.

The player who won the trick now leads a card. Play continues in this manner until all 4 players have played all of their cards.

Here are some additional pointers designed to help you become a more advanced Spades player.

In this online card game, you cannot lead a Spade until Spades have been BROKEN. Spades are broken when someone plays a Spade because they did not have any cards in the suit that was led. Note: If Spades have not been broken, you may lead Spades if you have no other suits in your hand.

You cannot lead a Spade until someone has played a Spade on another trick. The only exception to this rule is if you have no other cards in your hand.

On the first trick, if you cannot follow suit, you can trump the trick with a Spade.

Other potential players in the game room can join your game in progress. This is most useful if a player drops out and you don't want to play with computer players.

Allows host to filter players who join the game to the skill ratings checked below. At least one of the five ratings (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, or Master) must remain checked. This is a great way to play games with people of similar skill level. When this option is unchecked, the game is open to players of all skill ratings.

Clicking once or twice in the blank box will usually get the Options screen to appear.

You could also try using a browser other than the one you normally use to see if you have better results.

Have you or your internet service provider made some changes in your virus/malware protection. You may need to make sure that game3.pogo.com is white-listed there.

It may be a blocker problem, in particular with game3.pogo.com (which is what opens rooms)
Your popup blocker is from either your browser or your anti-virus-type program rather than from Pogo.

Depending on the source, you need to go to the allow list on the blocker and add the following three items as permitted popups:
pogo.com
game3.pogo.com
pogospike-prod.pogo.com

Your pop up blocker is found in your browser:
Chrome: Click the Chrome bars > Settings > Scroll down to Advanced Settings > Privacy > Content Settings > Pop Up Blockers. (Add the sites listed above).
Firefox: Tools > Options > Content > Click on Exceptions next to "Block Pop Up Windows." Add the sites listed above.
Internet Explorer: Tools > Internet Options > Privacy > Scroll down until you see Pop Up Blocker. Click on Settings, and add the sites to your Allow list.

Spades • Spades freezes all the time

By Peggalee » April 21st, 2017, 12:38 am

Sometimes it says bid and I have no cards, or play and the cards are not there, or no cards show up for anyone and it freezes. I just figure out what it is. I've played on Google, Firefox and IE 11 and it still happens

Let's say that your team bids 6 tricks for a hand. If you actually take 8 tricks, that's 2 overbooks for the 2 extra tricks. Once you get 10 overbooks, 100 points are subtracted from your team score.

You can set the table options so that there's no overbook penalty if you wish.

Thank you so much, I never would have figured this out, you explained it so well! Thanks again.

Under "Customize Your Table" put a checkmark next to "Make Game Rated."

Rated games must be played with other people. You cannot play rated games with the robot opponents.

Selected a Spades personal Challenge "Win 2 250-pont RATED games this week". I have played and won 2 250-point games, twice, and have not gotten any credit for the wins. I am thinking that it is because the games weren't RATED. How do you check to see if it is a RATED game and how do you make it RATED if it is not.
