Spades is a card game for 4 players. Players sitting across from each other are partners on the same team. The object of this online card game version of Spades is to be the first team to score 500 points.

At the start of the round, each player is dealt 13 cards. Select 1 card from your hand, and then click on the "Pass" button to pass the card to your partner. You will receive 1 card that your partner has passed to you.

Estimate how many tricks you can take during this round. A trick is a group of 4 cards, 1 card from each player. Your bid and your partner's bid are added together, and this is the number of tricks that your team must take.

Now the play begins. The player to the left of the dealer plays a card.

Card game play continues clockwise. When it is your turn, the blue "Play" prompt will appear above your cards. Double-click on a white card to play it. You must play a card of the same suit as the first card if you can. If you don't have any cards in the suit that was led, you can play any card.

Spades are always trump, meaning that they outrank all other suits. When each player has played a card, the person who played the highest Spade wins these cards for his or her team. This is called winning a trick. If no trump was played, the person who played the highest card in the suit that was led wins the trick. Aces are the highest card.

The player who won the trick now leads a card. Play continues in this manner until all 4 players have played all of their cards.

Complete Game Guide

Here are some additional pointers designed to help you become a more advanced Spades player.

In this online card game, you cannot lead a Spade until Spades have been BROKEN. Spades are broken when someone plays a Spade because they did not have any cards in the suit that was led. Note: If Spades have not been broken, you may lead Spades if you have no other suits in your hand.

You cannot lead a Spade until someone has played a Spade on another trick. The only exception to this rule is if you have no other cards in your hand.

On the first trick, if you cannot follow suit, you can trump the trick with a Spade.

Other potential players in the game room can join your game in progress. This is most useful if a player drops out and you don't want to play with computer players.

Allows host to filter players who join the game to the skill ratings checked below. At least one of the five ratings (Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, or Master) must remain checked. This is a great way to play games with people of similar skill level. When this option is unchecked, the game is open to players of all skill ratings.

Your browser's zoom must be set at exactly 100 percent.

While you are on Pogo's home page, hold down the CTRL key and press the Zero key (above the letter P on your keyboard) at the same time. That will reset your zoom to 100 percent.

Do that BEFORE you go to the game.

Some people have found that lowering their zoom to 90 percent or 80 percent helps.

Just make sure your zoom is not higher than 100 percent.

Also, your screen resolution is a bit low. It should be at least 1024 X 768. Try changing it to 1280 X 768 or play around with it until you find something comfortable.

See below:

How To Adjust Screen Resolution

Thank you your advice, tulip. My hubs has already done both of those for me. And I'm still not being able to play spades.

Any more tips for him to check for me? It's like once my stuff breaks, nothing fixes it.

I've not been able to get into chat rooms in ANY game for a long time. I have to invite myself to a game room to be able to play in my favorite rooms. I can't just click on it & go in. Doesn't matter if there's only 1 person in it. And just recently the daily challenge activate button stopped working, too. I have to go into the search & bring up the game that way.

I just don't understand what is going on.

Update your Firefox to the latest version.
Click on the 3 horizontal bars on the far right (the Menu bar); then Click on help (the question mark at the bottom right), then
select "about Firefox". Firefox should begin looking for updates and install the latest version, this is 51.0.1.

Here is a link to see if Adobe Flash is working on your computer: http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
Once you've established that your flash is working, you need to know that flash games are memory hogs. Here is a link that has some great advice on adjusting settings in your Flash Player Manager for playing on Pogo: Flash Player Manager Settings

Spades • Spades Stopped working on 2/18/17 for me

By dothanfan » February 19th, 2017, 8:23 pm

I've not been able to choose a room for a long time now so I go into spades by playing the robots. Yesterday, 2/18/17, my spades suddenly stopped working. I have Firefox browser. Tried with IE & same thing. I can get to a table but when I try to play my cards, they won't drop & game won't advance. Just frozen. I've tried installing latest Java update but game is still not working. Also have latest version of Flash.

Any suggestions? I also was playing Pinochle a month or so go & it suddenly stopped working the same way.

So many problems with so many games & it's getting very frustrating when you pay a fee to play the games.

You can play the bots with Spades. All you need to do it select a room, select an empty table, make sure your options allow Robots to fill empty seats, give it a password and play. Unless the Badge is for RATED games, you should have no trouble.

I don't seem to be able to catch a room to work on a badge. I have asked the rooms if anyone available, but usually they don't respond. Why doesn't spades allow robots. Other games do. Please consider allowing robots.

Spades went to a commercial and never came back, but a blank white screen.????? It was also very slow and stalled. I've done all the recommended updates, data deletes, etc, etc and for most of Feb ALL games are slow, stalled or frozen. Time for the doctor to make a server call.

I have had the problem with not being allowed to play the cards out of my "hand." I went to the forum and noticed that others were having the same problem. I have done all that was suggested: changed the zoom feature and put new batteries in my mouse -- to no avail. Would you please check this out? Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

The scan shows as IE 7 because you have compatibility view turned on for Pogo.com, here is how to turn it off:

Launch Internet Explorer
Select Tools,
Select Compatibility View Settings
Remove Pogo.com

Regarding your zoom level, try 100% (make sure to change the zoom before you access the game). If that doesn't resolve the issue check your mouse, it may need new batteries or you may even need to replace it since the left click function wears out after continual use.
